Better Recycling Comes to Open Arms

Posted on 9.11.12

Open Arms will roll out an improved recycling program starting Monday, September 17. We aim to decrease our environmental impact by reducing trash, stepping up recycling and adding composting.
There will be new labeled receptacles throughout the building and plenty of signage to help you figure out what goes where.

Some of the biggest changes are:

Organics. We will collect all of our paper waste (including paper towels from the restrooms and kitchen sink areas), food-soiled paper and cardboard, label paper backing and all food waste for composting.
Plastic bags. We will collect plastic bags, plastic film wrapping from cases of products and pallet plastic wrap in a receptacle by the kitchen back door. Look for the sign explaining what can be collected. Volunteers can also bring in their own acceptable plastic bags for recycling.
General recycling. We will recycle all numbered plastics (1 through 7) as well as glass, metal, paper, cardboard and milk/juice cartons.

Big thanks to superstar volunteer Lisa Genis for helping us make this new recycling program a reality!
