An Interview with Alissa Wassung, Executive Director of Food Is Medicine Coalition (FIMC)
In a new series by Open Arms of Minnesota, we want to take a deep dive into the Food is Medicine movement by taking a closer look at Medically Tailored Meals (MTM). Over this five-part series, our audience will learn more about medically tailored meals and their outcomes, the role of the Food Is Medicine Coalition (FIMC), and what’s new and innovative across the food as medicine landscape.
In this part of our series, we take a deep dive into the critical importance of access to accredited food is medicine organizations, in the wake of a STAT article examining the challenges of programs that do not follow medically tailored meal (MTM) and medical nutrition therapy (MNT) guidelines for clients who are critically or chronically ill. We spoke with Alissa Wassung, the Executive Director of the nonprofit Food Is Medicine Coalition. In this interview, we discuss the outcomes of current initiatives, emerging research legislation and research, and the potential for expanding the reach and impact of Medically Tailored Meals. Alissa will also share her vision for the future, highlighting key areas of focus and opportunities for innovation in the intersection of food and health.
