WHY MAKE A LEGACY GIFT?
A legacy gift shows your belief in the mission of Open Arms and your desire to accomplish something special in the lives of people with life-threatening illnesses.
After assuring that family members are provided for, many people consider making a financial contribution to the organizations and institutions that have enriched their lives and the lives of others. By leaving a legacy gift to Open Arms, you can play a significant role in sustaining our efforts to support critically ill Minnesotans and their families for years to come. Your thoughtful planning will ensure that our programs and services continue to show care and compassion to those in need, even after you’re gone.
Here are some reasons why friends of Open Arms have left a legacy gift:
- You will create a legacy of support for those who are battling critical illnesses.
- You will be contributing to the continued support of Open Arms, who relies on support from individuals like you to provide nourishing and healthy meals.
- You will make a gift that costs nothing in your lifetime.
- You will have the chance to make even more of a difference than you already do!
- You will be welcomed into our legacy society, the Kitchen Table, which recognizes those who have given legacy gifts to Open Arms and provides for our clients and their families, now and in the future.
- You will serve as an inspiration to others to join you today to ensure our success tomorrow!

A gift by including Open Arms in your Will – you can leave a future gift to Open Arms by including the following language in your will:
Keep it flexible – “I give to Open Arms, MN, a non-profit organization located at 2500 Bloomington Ave, Mpls, MN 55404, ____% of the rest, residue and remainder of my estate, both real and personal property of whatever kind and wheresoever situated.”
Name a fixed amount – “I give to Open Arms, MN, a non-profit organization located at 2500 Bloomington Ave, Mpls, MN 55404, the sum of $_______ (or describe the specific stock or security you intend to leave to Open Arms).”
Donor Spotlight: Mary Colson Burns
Mary first heard about Open Arms of Minnesota from her husband Jack who loved delivering meals on his lunch break while working for Medtronic. It was Jack’s favorite place to volunteer – “Jack was always so pumped up at the end of the day after delivering meals. He’d say, ‘I met the most amazing people and I love doing this!’”
After Jack’s passing Mary started volunteering for Open Arms and it quickly became her passion as well. “You know I just walked in the door and felt it – the warmth and community, it really is unique!” She started volunteering with a group on the 5-7 kitchen shift in Minneapolis and was hooked. Mary quickly understood why Jack loved Open Arms so much.
